John Doyle Sculpture

John Doyle was born in Denver, CO and has spent most of his life between Colorado and Idaho. John studied Art and Architecture at the University of Idaho. Shortly after school John spent a summer in Alaska, where he got to see large scale wood sculpture up close for the first time.
Several years later, in 1989, John carved his first totem pole at his cabin on the back side of Aspen Mountain. He has been carving totems and other large wooden sculptures ever since. John has worked in the same studio in Aspen since 1990, though he prefers to carve outside, on the back side of Aspen Mountain.
In 2006, John started carving hardwood, thus far focusing on walnut. He is currently working on his third sculpture in this new medium and is very pleased with the new opportunities hardwood presents.
