ARTIST STATEMENT
My passion for art and for skiing are interwined. I feel that being outside is why I like carving in large scale; living small, in a simple way, gave me the time to create my first sculpture and it has all followed from that.
I enjoy researching my subject matter; the more I learn, the more possibilities there are. I find totem poles quite spiritual and full of symbolism. They led me to my interest in Native Americans and to the Maori of New Zealand, and thus to my passion for carving the human form in large scale.
Native Americans, Buddha, Tibet, the Four Dignities, the Four Seasons, all wove together for me. Living in the mountains keeps me acutely aware of the seasons and how that relates to the seasons of my life: spring, summer, autumn, winter. Value each day.
